ROBERT BURNS 1759-96

MY LOVE IS LIKE A RED, RED ROSE

O, my love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
My love is like a melody
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonny lass,
So deep in love am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love!
And fare thee weel, awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

Robert Burns "The Bard of Ayrshire" is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and his poems are known worldwide. He also collected Scottish folk songs, often revising them. The most famous example is "Auld Lang Syne" which is sung all over the world at midnight on Hogmanay.
